October is domestic abuse awareness month!
The YWCA empowers thousands of women and children to live safe, abuse-free lives each year. Our work is only possible thanks to the support of caring individuals like you.
Join us in October for Domestic Abuse Awareness Month and help us continue making a difference in the lives of those in need.
Here are a few ideas to raise awareness & funds:
● Host a small fundraising event! It doesn't have to be anything fancy, but if you are a member of a community group, business, or place of worship, a small fundraiser can go a long way in helping victims of abuse. Ideas include hosting a dinner party at your home, inviting friends over for a sport or card tournament, and donating the proceeds to the YWCA to benefit our shelters in St. Joseph and Elkhart Counties. ● If you own a business, please consider donating a percentage of your profits to the YWCA during Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
● Display YWCA posters at your business or organization so those who need help can access information privately! Order posters online HERE.
● Invite YWCA staff to present about domestic violence at your business, school, or group. Our Domestic Violence Advocates will highlight warning signs of domestic violence and explain how you can help if you see those signs.
● Celebrate Purple on Thursday, October 17th. Give your employees a dress-down day for a small donation to YWCA. By wearing purple, you honor victims and support survivors of domestic violence. Be sure to take pictures and tag us at #ywcancin.
● Display a purple ribbon, the sign of domestic violence awareness, in your window at home or work.
